Patrick Derycke is a veterinarian who specialises in pigeons and is also a passionate breeder. Patrick looks after the breeding pigeons and the Schieman family looks after the racing team. This means that Patrick can concentrate on breeding and medical care. Perfect care of the entire stock is particularly important in the SG and they have been relying on Röhnfried products for years.

The concept

Patrick: 'Year after year we try to select more and more rigorously and it is remarkable that our team is getting stronger and stronger. All we have are 28 widowers and a group of around 70 youngsters.' Last season they won no less than 13 x 1 in their own club. The first strict selection takes place when the pigeons are weaned, because great importance is placed on a perfect physique. After that, the racing basket takes care of further selection. Since they have fewer pigeons, they can observe them much better and look after them even more intensively. Every year new pigeons are added, but always from the Vandenabeele base.

Supplying Röhnfried

During the season, a lot of Blitzform, Rotosal and Carni-Speed are used. These products are very important for quick regeneration, good blood circulation and a quick increase in form. This means that they get into excellent condition much faster. Another product that they like very much is Avidress Plus.  As a veterinarian, Patrick knows that the acidity of the water is very important to prevent trichomonads.

Healthy young pigeons

From the beginning, young pigeon powder is added to the feed every day and Avidress Plus is added to the drinking trough every day. They also prefer a light travel mix. When the young pigeons come home from the flight, they receive as much food as they want. The food is mixed with K+K Protein 3000. At the end of the week, the food is slightly enriched with peeled sunflower seeds. During the season they get Carni-Speed and Rotosal in their drinking water and after the flight they always get Bt-Amin forte in their drinking water.

The concept

No more than 35 pigeons are set for the race (28 widowers and around 7 hens). The pigeons only take part in races in good weather. They are not set if it is excessively hot or rain is forecast. In addition, they release around 60 young pigeons for their own use. The first strict selection takes place at weaning. SG Derycke-Schieman attaches great importance to a perfect body structure. After that, the basket takes care of the further selection. Pigeons that do not perform do not find a place in the racing loft. This system works best for the loft community.

Early breeding and a good vaccination plan are the be-all and end-all for a successful young bird race. The pigeons are vaccinated against paramyxoviruses, rotaviruses, paratyphoid and smallpox. Weaning, the various vaccinations, darkening and training are aspects that can reduce the resistance of the young birds, so it is important to vaccinate the young birds early on.

Care

The young birds are often given young bird powder in their feed from the start. They also get Avidress Plus in their drinking water every day. After their return, the pigeons receive as much racing mix enriched with K+K-Protein 3000 as they want. They receive Carni-Speed ​​in combination with Rotosal in their drinking water, and after the flight, Bt-Amin forte is added to the drinking water. At temperatures above 25°C, the pigeons also receive Rotosal in the water.
