After many reports from the past, the Krouss+Grotzsch loft community is very well known to our breeders. The racing system, the pigeon lofts and the daily handling have also been presented in detail time and again. In addition, Stephan answers questions weekly together with Frederik Wolf in the livestream “Ask Röhnfried” or is a guest at the lofts of top breeders with his YouTube format “Röhnfried Inside”.

This year we would therefore like to introduce some products that Stephan and Günter use to prepare their pigeons for the season.

What products do you use to get your pigeons in shape before the season?

“Before the season starts, we try to get the pigeons in shape in a natural way. As soon as all the necessary treatments (if prescribed by the vet) and vaccinations have been completed in the loft, we want to get our racing team into top shape.”

At the end of February, the pigeons are given witch's beer in the water for 10 to 14 days and at the same time breath-free with Avimycin forte in their feed. In addition, all pigeons are given a drop of Rozitol in each nostril. By giving witch's beer, the pigeons achieve a significant improvement in form, their immune system is strengthened and the down moult gets more active. This can be clearly seen in the pink breast meat and the white nose warts.

“By additionally administering Atemfrei and Avimycin forte, we naturally activate the metabolism in the respiratory tract and support the functions of the respiratory tract.”

Treatment with Rozitol ensures that the respiratory tract is cleared of old mucus and dust after being stuck for a long time in winter. This measure is repeated approximately every four weeks.

From the end of March, when the pre-flights begin, Carni-Speed is used daily. By giving additional L-carnitine, the pigeons show a significantly greater enthusiasm for training in a very short time.

Care during the season

“We care for our racing pigeons according to the care plan from Röhnfried. Of course, there can always be small changes, but in principle we can prepare our pigeons optimally for the races.”

A difficult season

How did the 2022 racing year go and what were the special features?
Overall, it was a very difficult season in 2022. The 7th prize flight in particular gave us a lot of trouble. We were able to start with the 2nd, 3rd and 8th prizes, but the course of this 7th distance flight proved to be extremely difficult. After that, the pigeons simply did not come back into top form. But as a breeder, you always try to emerge stronger from such situations and learn from them.

What changes have you made compared to the previous season and what is the conclusion?

Basically, we took part in the 2022 race with birds and hens again. In contrast to the previous season, we bred our young birds in February and did not show any partners when we released them. Furthermore, the pigeons were only trained in the mornings (once a day). In conclusion, we can say that next year we will be pairing twice again (in February and April) and will also show the partners again when they are released. When it comes to training, we are switching back to twice a day - even at higher temperatures.

What are the most important products from Röhnfried for you?

We try to stick to the Röhnfried concept 365 days a year. For this reason, many products are very important to us in our daily care. These include Rotosal, Immunbooster, BT-AminForte and Carni-Speed.

How do you use these products?

We start with Carni-Speed ​​around 14 days before the first long-distance flight - during the season it is used five days a week. The pigeons show a significantly increased training intensity, especially in terms of endurance and speed. Rotosal and Bt-Amin forte are administered when the pigeons arrive in order to achieve rapid regeneration. The pigeons also receive it one day before basketing. We give the immune booster three to four days a week via the feed, as it is perfect for drying off and promotes intestinal stability, the immune system and the binding of fungal toxins.

What was an extraordinary success for you in 2022?

Without a doubt, this was the 1st RV championship with a seven-price lead and the best old bird of the RV Krefeld with 13 prices in 14 appearances.
